WHO WE ARE

BASE is initiated by the Hilti Foundation that provides alternative building technologies to enable a network of partners to build quality socialized homes. Homes that are Comfortable, Affordable, Disaster Resilient, Ecologically Friendly, and with Social Impact. BASE develops technologies using locally grown and renewable materials to create housing envelops and designs suited to the needs of local communities. Through the Base Innovation Center, Base conducts research and testing programs, as well as training courses in partnership with institutions and professionals on alternative building technologies.

MARICEN JALANDONI
PRESIDENT
HILTI FOUNDATION ASIA LIAISON

Maricen serves as the liaison for the projects of the Hilti Foundation in Asia which covers Affordable Housing and Technology, Economic Empowerment, and Music for Social Change. She is also the President and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for Base Bahay Foundation in the Philippines. She is responsible for providing the strategic direction for the organization, in coordination with the other Board members, as well as ensuring that it continues to live up to its Vision and Mission as a technology provider for high-quality social houses that have a social, environmental, and economic impact.
Prior to BASE, Maricen presents over 30 years of Sales, Marketing, and Operations experience covering consumer goods, banking, and real estate, in different senior management positions. She is also engaged in entrepreneurial ventures and continues to support private relief and livelihood projects and is focused on her calling for nation-building.

DR. PABLO JORILLO, Jr.
GENERAL MANAGER

Doc PJ is responsible for overseeing and directing all activities — ensuring that the foundation continues to live up to its Vision and Mission as a leader in Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology, particularly in the areas of innovation, research, and training.
Prior to taking on the role of General Manager of Base, Doc PJ served as the General Manager
of Hilti. He helped develop and grow Hilti Philippines to 10 times its revenue with a CAGR
growth of 30% in 10 years.
He studied Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Structural Engineering at the University
of the Philippines Diliman. He finished his Doctor Degree in Engineering from Nihon University, College of Oceanic Architecture and Engineering (Tokyo, Japan). He received his post- doctoral grants from Rajamangala Institute of Technology (Thailand) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan) as part of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Monbusho programs.

ENGR. LUIS FELIPE LOPEZ
HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY
DIRECTOR OF THE BASE INNOVATION CENTER

Luis oversees research, training, and application of Base’s Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology in the Philippines. As a native of Colombia, Luis moved to the Philippines in 2014 to take on the role of Base Bahay’s Head of Product Development for Bamboo Housing. Prior to BASE, he was a consultant of the HILTI Foundation in determining the best bamboo
construction system for the Philippines.

Luis graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in
2000. He is one of the authors of the Colombian Bamboo Structural Design Code NSR-10 and
collaborated actively in the development of the Peruvian and Ecuadorian bamboo Codes as well. Currently, He is part of the ISO Committee TC 165 (Timber and bamboo structures) representing Colombia, where he worked keenly on the update of the ISO 22156 “Bamboo structural design” standard, published in June 2021. He is also the newly appointed Co-Chair for the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) 8th Edition, 2022 – Chapter 8 Bamboo Volume I.
